More On Socialized Healthcare

In another article, Robert J. Cihak, M.D., of the Discovery Institute and a past president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, goes into detail about the realities of one of the most socialized healthcare system in the world, Canada's. The article writes,

Comparing Canada with other industrialized countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) that provide universal access to health care, a study released by The Fraser Institute in May revealed that Canada spends more on its system than other nations while ranking among the lowest in several key indicators, such as access to physicians, quality of medical equipment, and key health outcomes.

The study identifies one of the major reasons for this discrepancy. Unlike other countries in the study that outperformed Canada - such as Sweden, Japan, Australia, and France - Canada outlaws virtually all private health care. If the government says it provides a medical service, it's illegal for a Canadian citizen to pay for and get the service privately.


Does anyone see a pattern here? The more one moves from government run healthcare to privatized healthcare, the better the overall quality of the health care. This isn't just true in healthcare, but in all aspects of Economics. Whether it is Communism/Socialism verses Capitalism, or anything else. The private industry always wins out the government run programs.

If this is so consistently the case, why do people over and over again want to give the socialist solution another try? Thomas Sowell gives us a reason when he writes,

Some ideas sound so plausible that they can fail nine times in a row and still be believed the tenth time. Other ideas sound so implausible that they can succeed nine times in a row and still not be believed the tenth time. Government controls in the economy are among the first kinds of ideas and the operation of a free market is among the second kind.

The Importance Of Kerry's Cambodia Claim

As I have posted on this blog before , The Swift Boat Vets against Kerry have already caught Kerry in at least one lie; the claim that he was in Cambodia on Christmas of 1968. Joshua Muravchik, writing in the Washington Post explains why that lie is so significant, he writes , After his discharge, Kerry became the leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). Vietnam Boomerang

The issue here, as I have heard it raised, is was he present and active on duty in Alabama at the times he was supposed to be. . . . So begins an article by the Wall Street Journal demonstrating how John Kerry brought the recent criticism by swift boat vets upon himself. The article states, A good rule in politics is that anyone who picks a fight ought to be prepared to finish it. But having first questioned Mr. Bush's war service, and then made Vietnam the core of his own campaign for President, Mr. Kerry now cries No mas ! because other Vietnam vets are assailing his behavior before and after that war.
