When discussing abortion many people will respond with "I don't necessarily support abortion, I just support the women’s right to choose", as if supporting one does not support the other. I have mentioned on this blog before how the central question in abortion is whether the fetus is a person or not. You can not escape answering this and the "pro-choice" line is no exception. Let me clarify this with an example that touches on something less controversial. Let’s say we’re back in Abraham Lincoln's time, mid 1800's, and instead of abortion, the issue is slavery. You had the famous Douglas vs. Lincoln debates. If throughout the debate Douglas said this (he did use the pro-choice argument, btw), Douglas: I am not for slavery, I am just for giving the land owners the right to choose whether to own slaves or not. For those of you that watched John Kerry's speech at the Democrat National Convention, I'm sure you noticed just how little he talked about his actual senate record, or his political actions after returning from war. He keeps trying to focus all the attention on his four and a half month war record. Since this is his focus, I thought it'd be good to take a closer look at his war record. Linda Chavez has an article doing just that, she writes, ...most of the officers who served with Kerry have not endorsed him and resent their images being used to tout the candidate. In one famous photo, which Kerry has used on his Website and campaign literature, the young Kerry is pictured with 19 other Swift boat officers in charge of Coastal Division 11. But only one of the 23 officers who served with Kerry in Coastal Division 11 has actually endorsed Kerry. Walter Williams has an article detailing his experiences working with liberals, and how, in his opinion, they view minorities (he gives blacks as examples, but it could be applied to all minorities). He writes, On occasion, when the question-and-answer session began, I'd tell the press, "You can treat me like a white person. Ask hard, penetrating questions." The remark often brought uncomfortable laughter, but I was dead serious. If there is one general characteristic of white liberals, it's their condescending and demeaning attitude toward blacks. According to a Washington Times story (July 14, 2004), Democratic hopeful Sen. So says the new shirts from Planned Parenthood. The shirts caused such an uproar that they required Gloria Feldt, president of Planned Parenthood, to make a public statement defending the decision to sell them. This reminds me of one of my favorite debating tools when debating abortion with an individual. It goes something like this, in abortion debates, it is always common for the other party to make statements like "We all agree abortions should be rare and unnecessary", or "we all agree in an ideal world there should be no abortions". The moment they say that, I immediately respond with "why", or more specifically, "why should abortions be rare and unnecessary"? You see, the minute the person admits that abortion is anything less than "great", they have admited the pro-life position. If abortion is not the killing of an innocent human being, than why would we want abortions to be "rare and unnecessary", why would anyone...

There have been a lot of charges recently about how biased Fox News is. Since I watch Fox News rather frequently, I was curious to find out how they came to this conclusion. However, the more I look into the reasons behind the accusations, the more I come to conclude that they don't hit their mark. For one, most charges of bias that I have seen are not against Fox News actual journalism shows, but against their pundits. The critics will go on and on about how Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity did this, or said that. However, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are not performing as journalists, in the traditional sense of the term. But pundits, who are encouraged to give their personal opinions on certain issues. Viewers recognize that. For example, it wouldn't be fair for me to criticize CNN for being biased simply because of what is said on the Lou Dobbs show. For me to claim bias, I have to criticize their news section. So if Fox News is biased because of Bill O'Reill...

I have mentioned before on this blog how liberal the 9th Circuit Court is. How they voted 'Under God' in the pledge of allegiance is unconstitutional, for example. I have also mentioned how that court is the only federal court in the nation that has more judges nominated by Democrats, than by Republicans. Well, for those who would like to see just how deep this liberalism runs, and the impact it has on the people who fall under the 9th Circuit Court, the Center For Individual Freedom has created a report that goes into much more detail. This is such important information precisely in an election year. Since the next president will nominate judges who will be around long after the President leaves office. John Kerry will likely pick judges much more in line with the rulings the 9th Circuit Court makes, and George Bush will pick judges who are much more in line with the other Circuit Courts rulings.
